A 25-year-old man was killed and another injured after their moving truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer that pulled out in front of them. According to an ABC15 news report, the fatal truck accident occurred on the Interstate 17 south of Camp Verde. Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the commercial truck with a 53-foot trailer pulled out in front of the Penske moving truck from a safety pullout, making it difficult for the other driver to stop in time to avoid the collision. The moving truck ended up rear-ending the tractor-trailer. The driver of the moving truck suffered relatively minor injuries while his passenger died. The truck driver could be looking at criminal charges in connection with this fatal accident.
This incident is another example that demonstrates the devastating impact a truck accident can have on the occupants of other vehicles. Passenger vehicles and smaller trucks are no match for an 80,000-pound tractor-trailer. There is no question that these large commercial trucks have several blind spots. That makes it all the more important for truckers to be extra careful when they pull out into traffic or make lane changes on the freeway. The most common causes for large truck accidents are truck driver fatigue, impaired or distracted driving, speeding and following too closely.
Injured victims of truck accidents in Arizona can file a personal injury claim against the driver and his or her employer, usually a trucking or distribution company. Families of deceased truck accident victims can file a wrongful death claim seeking damages. Victims or their families would be well-advised to get an experienced Arizona truck accident lawyer on their side. They need an injury lawyer who will fight the large corporations involved and make sure justice is done.
